Cross country

CLAP! We were off. I ran out in front. My legs and heart pounding. Yes! A good start now I just need to keep my lead. If you're are wondering what's going on. It's my school cross country. My school has been practicing for this for ages. I'm worried if anyone goes past me it will be so embarrassing. As we race around Miss Milburn and head down the hill. I look back and see there their little legs racing . I hope they don't fall down the hill that would mean I'd have to deal with a crying 8 year old. You may be wondering why my competition was a little young that's because I was their guide. As I pulled into the finish line I watched all the kids sprint past. Then one kid sprints his heart out then trips and falls. Only one casualty so far.

I walk back to my bag have some food then we have to line up. I start to get nervous but it goes away because we had to what in line FOREVER! When we finally lined up at the start line. I was feeling tired but woke myself up by doing some stretches.( I was so happy I stretched I'm feeling no pain!) I had serious butterflies at this point. We had to wait at the start line for around 10 mins.

I kept my eyes on Miss Alloway who was holding the clapper. Then Miss Alloway suddenly said “ Are you ready? On your marks, get set ,CLAP! I ran into lead and around the cone that was the first of many corners. When I got into the forest that's when the stitch seriously kicked in. I felt like I was being stabbed. But I powered on knowing I was past halfway. When I got out of the forest I saw Marcus and Samuel entering. When I was on my last lap I looked back and saw Eb coming but I had the finish line in site.I sprinted to the finish knowing that I would get a rest. I went and saw my parents. I chatted to James. Then I had to go. When I headed home I was happy with my performance and excited because that was my last school cross country.

  2. Well done Lachlan, this is an entertaining read. You certainly have the audience hooked from the start and the twist adds to the desire to read on.
I don't know if you need this part "I went and saw my parents. I chatted to James. Then I had to go." Although I do like your use of short sentences.
Well done you should be super proud of your running! Goodluck at Rakahuri.
