On February the 11th all the Year 8’s(apart from one)left to go tramp to Hawdon Hut then conquer cave stream. It was a perfect day for tramping, the sun shining down on us. But I wasn't focused on the weather. I was focused on William Pike. As I had read his book but it was surreal meeting him in person. When we got out of the vans you can imagine everyone being very restless after the two hour drive. We got our packs and Mr Priddy began briefing us about our journey ahead. When we finally set off, I started chatting happily among friends. We were only around five minutes in the walk when we meet our first obstacle. The river. William Pike started explaining a good ways to cross rivers and explained that we should link arms and walk slightly upstream. We all did as asked. Then we set off again. It was a pretty scenic walk. I enjoyed the birds chattering and trickle of the river. It was pretty peaceful until the terrain changed to a empty river bed. With nothing to protect from the sun’s relentless rays and everyone’s drink bottles empty. We rushed to ,anything that sounded like a water source. When lunch rolled around everyone gathered around one tree that stood alone on the barren riverbed. As we set off again with my mouth feeling as dry as a desert. We finally reached a forest. With the shade I found a newly provided energy and before I knew it I heard a river. It sounded like music to my ears. I sprinted with all my might and as the sight of the river filled my eyes. I almost dived in drinking to my heart’s content while yelling. “Guys! WATER!” Everyone rushed over we splashed each other while lying in the water. We stayed for ten more minutes then we set off again. Nothing really happened until we reached the hutt. I sighed feeling a sense of accomplishment. As the wooden building loomed into sight. After we settled in we headed down to the river. For a swim it was really fun then we took we went on a walk boulder hopping. Everyone was going pretty slow so me and Eb started having competitions on who can do the coolest jumps in between boulders. I obviously won. We walked back and it was dark. When we got back we had tea and started William Pike some questions I remember we talked about Williams accident and questions about his leg. When we went to sleep I tried to put my clothe in a sleeping bag cover but that didn't work very well So I resorted to sleeping with Eb as my pillow.I woke up from a surprisingly comfortable sleep. I started taking quietly to Riely and Eb before we decided to head out. It was a crisp morning. As we walked along the morning dew and looked at the rising sun we thought about the day ahead. It felt like a blur as everyone woke up and started packing everything up. Soon enough we set off the felt half as long as we saw familiar landmarks that would send us rushing round as we knew we close to the end. As I saw the end in sight. I sprinted and felt the sense of pride over come me. Then I was excited for what was next Cave stream.
